Some of you may or may not how much of a reddit addict I am, but in light of a recent pic I saw there that relates to this, I thought I’d post this.
About a month ago I showed my gf getonmyhorse.com Over the course of the next week I heard her make subtle references to “sweet lemonade”.
One day I walk into my living room to see this on the white board (we have our team meetings here)

We’re back from Comic Con 2009! The days flew by while we were on the move down there, but we were able to meet a lot of great people and companies. It was great watching people’s reactions when they would hear and/or see about how vokle works. Things are always moving quickly here with the team in LA, so it becomes really cool to be reminded of our hard work kicking ass at the end of the day.
Some personalities that I saw were Terry Gilliam, Verne Troyer (brief meeting courtesy of Tyrese Gibon’s Mayhem team), Danny DeVito, Stan Lee, Matt Groening, Dan and Jon Heder (bumped into them on the floor), and Jon Favreau. For us techies out there, even a brief meet up at a local hot spot with Alex Albrecht!
I wanted to share some tips and tricks for those of you planning to attend a convention in the future.
Parking: The parking situation was insane, and rather than try and fight for a spot and pay $20 each day, we simply drove a few extra blocks and found a ton of free street parking next to a train stop. Paid $15 for 4 days of unlimited metro access. Not only was it less of a headache getting to the convention center, but it even saved us some cash too.
Panels: Some of the panels had lines hitting 2+ hours in wait time. You could expect something like this from Hall H (which has a seating capacity of ~4500 people if i’m not mistaken, but it was surprising to see these long lines for the “smaller” rooms. Generally the lines would dissipate after they closed the doors for each panel, but if you timed your panels correctly, you could always come in and catch the tail end of each panel. It was a great way to still have the opportunity to hear them speak, listen to the live Q & A’s and even talk to some of the panelists!
The Exhibit Floor: If you’re trying to get somewhere, definitely avoid the center isle going length wise across the room. It moves slowly and people are bumping into each other left and right. The first day I spent on the exhibition floor I was focusing on a specific industry, which I later changed up to those I was looking to speak with in a specific area of the floor. You’ll definitely run into people on the floor though. This is how I bumped into Dan Heder and we starting talking about reaching out to fans in a more personal way online. *cue vokle theme song* (we should really come up with a theme song…oh wait we kind of have one. I’ll get it posted up)
Post Event: We did have some time after each day to hit various local restaurants that the tens of thousands attendees from the convention would spill into. Don’t think that the only time you’ll run into people is inside the convention. It was at a local hot spot where we ran into Alex Albrecht. Snapped a photo of Alex with our very own head honcho and ceo Robert. Apparently they knew each other back from the days when they were both at G4. Crazy

Rob looks like he is squeezing into the frame. Must be the USC Filmschool background in him wanting a closeup? I'll just do closeups from now on ;)
Overall it was an awesome time, but alas there is so much going on at the same time, that you have to pick and choose. Hopefully this helps those of you hitting any major conventions in the near future. I’ve been to a few conventions before, but none as massive and busy as the 5 days I spent at comic con 2009.
Hope everyone has exciting plans this holiday season!
We have begun randomly selecting names from the beta sign up list to come in and scope out Vokle!
In order to efficiently spot and remove bugs without overwhelming the team, we will be steadily opening up access to the website ![]()
If you receive notice that you have been selected, be sure to surf around the site and give us some feed back! Below are several notes to help you help us in getting the Vokle experience just right.
You’ll be given a keyword and the address of our development server. Make sure to copy the keyword before navigating away from your email, as you will need it to gain access to Vokle.
Once you are in the site and have signed up, you will notice a “feedback” button on the top right of every page. This is there so we can note any thoughts you may have on anything from a function, to an error. By clicking feedback you will notice there are several basic questions we ask such as, “what happened, what did you expect to happen, what were the steps you took leading up to the problem”. This helps us replicate the problem quickly and make adjustments to the system.
Make sure to send me a message or a private video chat request to say hello! I look forward to hearing thoughts and opinions in the live video chats around the latest news and content! It is definitely a fun and engaging way to hear different perspectives
I look forward to hearing and seeing all of you soon as we continue to update and open up the site!
Happy Holidays on behalf of the Vokle team!
-Edward
Hey Everyone!
I got a hold of a draft of a section of Vokle for our sneak peak! What better image to start us off than the Front Page
(Keep in mind we are constantly making adjustments based on testing, so this may not be the EXACT final product…but its close).
On this page you see the current top articles for each category based on votes, views, and rating. If you click one of the categories, you will see more cards for just that category. Some of the cards you see on other category pages are on their way to being the next top article for the front page, where you can discuss them live with others.
One of the coolest things to notice with navigation at Vokle, is that it is done with the persistent controller at the bottom of the page, a.k.a. the “Vo-kontroller”. This control bar is context sensitive, which means that it only displays actions that are useful to the page you are currently at. In other words, you won’t need to see a bunch of links per page that you don’t need to see. Duh, right?
Next button over we have the create a card button, which is a very simple process in which you can create your own content card to submit a link to the community. You’ll be amazed at how quick and fun it is to submit news to the site and create your own card.
;D
All the way to the right we have our Friend Button. Click this button and a small menu pops up where you can view online friends. This is where you’ll be going to setup private video chats with friends, family, or co-workers.
I’ll keep you posted as we progress through the site! Let ’s see some comments (at least until I can literally hear them after launch)!

Hey Everyone,
So we ran into some unexpected hiccups while making the final development push for Vokle’s launch, and are hard at work removing them. It is important for us that Vokle breathe smoothly so that you can speak out and see others live, clearly. We don’t expect it to hold us up too long, but we’ll keep you posted as we progress. Follow us on twitter if you’d like to keep a close eye on our progress!
Hope everyone had a great weekend
-Edward
