A Phantasmagoria of Phantastic Pheatures!

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Over the last week VOKLE has pushed some exciting new features, fixed some annoying bugs and made your broadcasting experience even smoother. Here are a the fun things and fixes our CTO implemented:

* You can now see your event stats in the planner! See above for example

* Fixed the homepage event listing, so we only display truly live events

* Auto-refresh (if you edit an event title, for example, it gets updated live!)

* Improved network security (fixed some holes in the original design)

* Lowe latency for Hosts, Co-Hosts and Question askers (but don’t forget to hardwire in)

* No more dealing with the Hardware Wizard when joining an event as an Attendee

* Enhanced latency measurement tools for Power Penguin

* Upgraded our Wowza server for increased performance

* Rebuilt the Twitter and Facebook authorization

Hip hip hooray for Andrew for pushing these changes. Next to be released… recording! Thanks for being patient. Give us one or two weeks, and we can smooth out all the kinks for you. Happy broadcasting!

Go Live, Staff Picks Leaderboard, & Consolidated Commenting!

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Howdy folks! In the last couple weeks, we’ve been hard at work on some fancy features which we can finally share with you guys. Here’s the scoop!:

1. Go Live Button

After hearing tons of feedback from our broadcasters for an ‘easy way to go live’, we’ve prioritized it high and just released it! Chances are you’ve noticed the new “Go Live” button on the top-right corner of your VOKLE webpage. Upon clicking, a pop-up will appear letting you create an event for a specific Lineup, or allowing you to create a new one. This feature will help you quickly create an event on-the-fly without dealing with Scheduling anything!

2. Staff Picks Leaderboard

We’re all super excited about this. As VOKLE continues growing, it’s become essential to promote our best content to our Frontpage. What you’ll notice is essentially a Leaderboard of our Staff Picks which is sorted in Most Viewed. Not only is this an awesome way to promote our best broadcasters, but also a way for you to grow your audience! Keep in mind, this updates every 2 weeks!

3. Consolidated Commenting

We’ve also implemented a little change to Commenting. So right now, people can comment on Lineup pages, and Event pages. We’ve brought both systems together so that you can now comment only on people’s Lineup page (think of it as a ‘Channel Shoutbox’). This will give commenting much greater focus!

There ya go people, what are your thoughts? As always, keep the suggestions and feedback coming via the comments! :)

Eclectic Embedding: The Jewelmint e-junket

Monday, February 7th, 2011

We’re huge fans of empowering anyone to embed VOKLE onto their websites, whether it be a single event, or an ongoing series (which we call a Lineup).  Just last week, Jewelmint used both their Lineup embed code AND the individual event embed code. This allowed Kate Bosworth and Cher Coulter to promote their new jewelry line through an ‘e-junket’ streamed live across three separate fashion blogs.

Each fashion blogger promoted a unique 30-minute interview on her website, and had exclusive access to Kate Bosworth and Cher Coulter. Jewelmint shared the full series with their community by simply placing the Lineup code on their website. The three back-to-back interviews with Kate and Cher have opened new doors for virtual tours across multiple blogs, without the Hosts ever leaving their seat! First jewelry, next….space!

Check out some of the other photos taken from the scene, along with the event (below) :)

Staff Picks, Confirming Roles & Text Chat Limiter

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Hi people! We’re super excited about this weeks new feature list, check them out. Also be sure to submit your feedback and suggestions in the comments, we can’t wait to hear your thoughts :)

1. Staff Picks

We just implemented a Staff Picks feature in VOKLE that will let us easily showcase some of our favorite broadcasters in the community! You can view the Staff Picks in currently 2 locations. The first is in the form of a popup when creating a new account, and the second is through the Browse Categories Page.

2. Anti-Spamming Chat

Cry no more fellow Vokleites, we’ve just added a chat limiter to the text chat which will eliminate most SPAM! It’s only triggered when someone text chats too quickly, and it’ll essentially force ‘timeout’ the user for 30 seconds. If you’re a courteous text chatter, you won’t encounter this or see a difference. However, you can imagine how helpful this would be in larger events (500+ participants) with Trolls.

2. Confirming Co-Hosts

We’ve added a confirmation step when assigning roles inside of VOKLE. This means when a Host assigns someone as a Co-Host, the user will receive a popup asking them to confirm whether they’re ready. If the person is not ready within 10 seconds, the popup disappears and the Host must try again.

Hope you guys enjoy the new updates, and please let us know what you think!

Recording feature is ready to be tested!

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

So you might be asking yourself ‘where’s the Recording feature already?’. Good question, sir/madam! We’ve been heads down for the last couple months gathering information and chipping away at it to make it just right. If you’ve been wondering what’s been going on in VOKLEland, it’s been exactly that. It’s finally reached the stage where you guys can play around with it and give us some feedback. Mind you, it doesnt look the prettiest, but that’s something we can finess when we officially launch the feature.

ATTENTION: If you’ve been Hosting shows regularly (Dane, Ryan, Sudie, etc.), send me a quick email for the invite (shant@vokle.com) and respond to this blog post with your thoughts!

Here’s to some very exciting times coming up! :)

UPDATE: “Frontpage and chats are quite slow!” (site maintenance)

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

You may have noticed that the site & chats have been loading super-duper slow for the past day. The reason is because we’re changing some of our servers around which is causing things to slow down. But no worries!—we hope for the maintenance to be complete sometime today, and we’ll be back in top-top shape before you know it!…so be sure to RSVP for DesignChat which broadcasts in a couple hours :)

UPDATE: We’re feeling better now!

UPDATE: “I see thy video stream now!” (site maintenance)

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Okay, so that pesky little video streaming quirk seemed to be resolved sooner than we imagined! If some of you still encounter this problem, feel free to email us: edward@vokle.com and we’ll look into it some more. Thanks for your patience everyone, now time to drink Em’s Twinnings Earl Grey. Yum!

UPDATE: “I hear thee but do not see!” (site maintenance)

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Just a note to everyone, we’re undergoing some site maintenance this week, so you may notice some of your events will be missing audio and/or video.  If you encounter this, simply click your heels three times and say “I can’t wait till next week, I can’t wait till next week”.  Since most of you have fun in the events via Text Questions, we’ve decided to keep it running throughout the week.  Just make sure to let your audience know in case you want to continue forward despite the maintenance!

In the mean time tweet at us, email us, or swing by the pad in Santa Monica, where we’ll clicking our heels in repetition with you.  We’ll even invite you in for a nice cup of tea if you swing by.
