Tweet your hearts out <3

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Yesterday we released some big updates to the VOKLE platform that you’ve probably already noticed. This will help you reach more people in your event along with taking interaction to a higher level.

Let’s start with the refreshed Twitter module! You can now tweet directly from a VOKLE event rather than having to be redirected to another window. You can also Retweet and Reply, all inside the chat. Now you can enlist the help of your audience to spread the word about your show!

We’ve also introduced a new way to ‘Invite Your Hero’ to join the your chat, this way you’ll be able to invite some of your favorite personalities to the chat. You can browse through our list of suggested Twitter users by clicking the left or right arrows on the header, or look for a specific user by using the search bar. Then, simply click “Invite!” and tweet away.

We’ve also introduced a new “Ask a Q” button to our chat box that will make it easier for your audience to ask video/text questions — it’s conveniently located next to the “Send” button in the Chat box.

To continue keeping VOKLE conversations fluid, engaging, and abundant — keep up with the question-asking and be sure to tweet out VOKLE to your favorite athletes, musicians, role models, friends, tech-savvy grandparents, and/or whoever else, and get them to easily create and share content.

Unprocessed Recordings Update

Monday, October 17th, 2011

To those of you who hosted shows this weekend and are anxiously awaiting your recording, know that they are safely processing now, and should be available by the afternoon—as usual, you will be notified by email as soon as your recording is available.

We would like to apologize for the delay; we pushed a new bit of code Friday that unintentionally blocked recordings from processing fully. We thank all of you who informed us of the issue, the sooner we can pinpoint a problem the sooner we can rectify it. And as always, thank you for your patience as we work our way through beta.

-The VOKLE Team

Update: We had a series of recording issues throughout the week, but they should be fixed. These issues were due to improvements we made on the platform, which inadvertently affected recording processing in a variety of ways. Thank you very much for your patience, please email us if issues with processing persist.

Auto-Promote Enables One-Click Sharing

Monday, September 26th, 2011

Last week we rolled out a small but mighty change that allows you to automatically share your recording… before you event begins. What is this wizardry? We call it Auto-Promote!

We noticed that most broadcasters were busy or distracted after their event ended, and forgot to share the recording with fans who missed it. Now when you schedule a new event, you will have the option of automatically tweeting or facebooking the recording as soon as it’s available. You can even modify the exact message you’d like to promote with the link:

Nifty, eh? More updates are in the works, keep your eyes peeled this week for some huge changes with the Twitter module…

VOKLE Gets a Facelift

Friday, September 9th, 2011

This week VOKLE spruced up our front page to make our platform clear to even the newbiest of n00bs. We created a nifty three-step guide to creating and sharing live moments, to check it out log out and visit the homepage.

We’ve also made it easier for you to connect to the VOKLE community through these mainpage additions:

• Links to the latest blog posts! If you’re wondering about community developments, updates or what makes VOKLE so cool, chances are you can find answers in the blog!

• One-click Twitter/Facebook like buttons! Facebook and Twitter are essential for keeping track of all our important events, and interacting with the team—shoot us a tweet, we’ll always respond :)

• A catalog of the latest Staff Pick recordings! There are plenty of great live events out there, and you’re bound to miss a few throughout the day. Now you can browse the latest recordings, which are listed directly on the front page.

Th-th-th-that’s all folks (for now!) Have a good weekend!

Colors, Badges and Flagging, Oh My!

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

Today we pushed a new feature that will add a touch of color and clarity to the confusion of the chat box. Behold, badges:

Assigned roles (Host, Screener, Editor, etc.) will show up with colored badges in the chat, and members of the VOKLE staff will also have badges designating themselves as part of the team.

You will also have the option to flag someone, as you see above. If a certain ratio of people flag a disruptive user, Staff members will see a warning symbol to the user’s name, and be able to kick him or her directly from the chat.

We will be discussing these changes today at 2pm PST, tune in to learn more and ask questions!

Upping the Ante: Recording Updates!

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

Since it was released, we’ve received a flood of requests and questions regarding recording (as you can see). There is always room for improvement, so our CTO stayed up late last night deploying a number of key updates:

1) Recordings are now visible on your series page! Before now, hosts had to promote their event links, otherwise viewers wouldn’t be able to access their recordings (see the last blog post for details). Now when you click on their series page, you will see their “Recorded Events” listed beneath their “Upcoming Events:”

2) You can finally delete your recordings! We’ve all had our fair share of live slip-ups (or maybe that’s just me), not to mention tech setups and demos that we never intended to see the light of day. Now you can delete those unwanted recordings through your “My Events” section:

3) We’ve fixed a small bug so that you can login via Facebook on embedded events. Keep the traffic on your site, there’s no need to redirect to our homepage!

4) A bunch of other internal improvements, including an upgraded database (one that can handle four times its original capacity—wowza!)

Remember, the power of recordings lie in sharing them. Tweet out your recordings, share the best chapters and show your friends how great you look on camera! Until next time, au revoir!

Recording… Finally!!!

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

Drumroll please…

I can almost hear the heavenly angel fanfare… And it will only get louder, because I’m going to break down how awesome recording actually is, and how you can make the most of it.

Right now there are two ways to access your recordings, through your event link (not your series link!), or through your event planner.  Therefore it’s important that you promote an event rather than the series, so that people can access your recording once the event is over.  You can find your event link by looking under your “scheduled events” and clicking “View” for the upcoming event.

We took the liberty of making a sample recording below, where we answer questions and demonstrate how recording works. Before playing the recording, you have the option of starting from the beginning, or viewing a list of questions and skipping ahead to sections you find interesting. The recordings are built to reflect the twists and turns of an event, by allowing people to easily access and promote different questions (which we’re calling “chapters”).

As you can see, there are small circles marking all the different “chapters” (text or video questions) Edward took during the show. You can hover over each of these markers to see a description of the question, or even promote a specific chapter of the event on Twitter or Facebook. You can even embed a particular chapter on your blog, so you can hone in on the part that’s relevant. Pretty cool, eh?

We’re proud and thrilled to bring this to our vokleites, and we thank you for being so patient. Happy broadcasting!

P.S. Events that occurred before yesterday afternoon (when we officially launched) were not recorded.

P.P.S. Be aware: You cannot resize your event recording yet, and if you try it will be distort the player. Hold tight for that feature!

A Phantasmagoria of Phantastic Pheatures!

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Over the last week VOKLE has pushed some exciting new features, fixed some annoying bugs and made your broadcasting experience even smoother. Here are a the fun things and fixes our CTO implemented:

* You can now see your event stats in the planner! See above for example

* Fixed the homepage event listing, so we only display truly live events

* Auto-refresh (if you edit an event title, for example, it gets updated live!)

* Improved network security (fixed some holes in the original design)

* Lowe latency for Hosts, Co-Hosts and Question askers (but don’t forget to hardwire in)

* No more dealing with the Hardware Wizard when joining an event as an Attendee

* Enhanced latency measurement tools for Power Penguin

* Upgraded our Wowza server for increased performance

* Rebuilt the Twitter and Facebook authorization

Hip hip hooray for Andrew for pushing these changes. Next to be released… recording! Thanks for being patient. Give us one or two weeks, and we can smooth out all the kinks for you. Happy broadcasting!

Go Live, Staff Picks Leaderboard, & Consolidated Commenting!

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Howdy folks! In the last couple weeks, we’ve been hard at work on some fancy features which we can finally share with you guys. Here’s the scoop!:

1. Go Live Button

After hearing tons of feedback from our broadcasters for an ‘easy way to go live’, we’ve prioritized it high and just released it! Chances are you’ve noticed the new “Go Live” button on the top-right corner of your VOKLE webpage. Upon clicking, a pop-up will appear letting you create an event for a specific Lineup, or allowing you to create a new one. This feature will help you quickly create an event on-the-fly without dealing with Scheduling anything!

2. Staff Picks Leaderboard

We’re all super excited about this. As VOKLE continues growing, it’s become essential to promote our best content to our Frontpage. What you’ll notice is essentially a Leaderboard of our Staff Picks which is sorted in Most Viewed. Not only is this an awesome way to promote our best broadcasters, but also a way for you to grow your audience! Keep in mind, this updates every 2 weeks!

3. Consolidated Commenting

We’ve also implemented a little change to Commenting. So right now, people can comment on Lineup pages, and Event pages. We’ve brought both systems together so that you can now comment only on people’s Lineup page (think of it as a ‘Channel Shoutbox’). This will give commenting much greater focus!

There ya go people, what are your thoughts? As always, keep the suggestions and feedback coming via the comments! :)
