Blog advice from Penelope Trunk and Ryan Paugh (video)

Penelope Trunk and Ryan Paugh had a really great event yesterday discussing blogging and community building. For those of you who missed it, Check out some highlights below!

Blogging Tips from Penelope Trunk and Ryan Paugh

Ryan actually talks about Vokle’s company blog in the first minute of the video. His advice for our blog was to show people how to have great events, post tips+tricks, and maybe some interviews with Vokle Publishers.  Surprisingly enough, I made a random blog post last week regarding “how to have a successful vokle event’. I suppose we’re on the right track! My mini-resolution for 2010 is to make our blog updated atleast 3-times a week with really exciting and fun posts.

Before I forget, I wanted to thank Jun Loayza from Viralogy for recommending Vokle to Ryan. You’re the man!

I think now’s the perfect time to ask people…what’s your take on our blog so far? Is it fun to read? engaging? what kinds of posts would you like to see? any feedback you guys have will definitely be helpful! <3

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for the great write up. And thanks for putting together the highlight reel. We tried to record, but something went terribly, terribly wrong. I’m looking forward to seeing a record feature on Vokle.

Here’s my feedback for the blog: Don’t mention your brand so much. Instead of writing a post titled “5 Steps to a Successful Vokle Experience” write a post titled “5 Steps to Putting on a Successful Webinar”.

What you guys want is for your brand to become more than just a brand. You guys are in a great spot and can position yourselves as thought leaders in the online video space. It doesn’t need to be all about the Vokle experience.

Here’s a good example: When I send newsletters to the Brazen Careerist community, I don’t include Brazen Careerist in the title because it’s not all about us. And when you go back and look at the open rate on our emails, you can see that there’s a correlation between posts that do and don’t have our brand in the title.

Does that make sense? I hope it helps.

Also, props to our buddy Jun! He’s a great networker and all around good guy to know.

@ Ryan Great point on going beyond the brand and digging into the info. We’re constantly looking to refine both the mix and the focus of the content on the blog, so we appreciate the advice!

Your live event had some super useful information (especially the part where you mentioned putting out your own opinion). Looking forward to learning more myself!

When composing any blog entries you always require to strive for making the content useful in some way to the readers. Recall that all popular blogs got that way due to the fact that the content was appealing to the people who viewed it. With that said it is always wise to keep the blog reader foremost in your mind when composing any entries.
